Our Commitment to Sustainability

Everything we make at Cinnabar Green begins with the land we call home. Our commitment to sustainability is not a just policy, it is built into how we farm, every ingredient we choose, every batch we pour, and the community we invest in.

Accreditation and recognition

In May 2026 we became a Certified B Corporation, meeting the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

The B Corp certification publicly recognises businesses that are a force for good, balancing profit with purpose.

In joining the global B Corp community, we have committed to continuous improvement across every dimension of our impact: on our people, our community, and our planet.

From the ground up

Everything starts in the soil. On our farm in Laikipia, we grow aromatic crops and botanicals organically, with soil regeneration at the heart of our approach: actively restoring soil health and carbon content rather than simply avoiding harm.

Growing our own ingredients means we can trace every product back to the field it came from, while supporting biodiversity in one of Kenya's most fragile ecosystems.

Ethical formulations

Our products have never been tested on animals, and they never will be. Our formulations are free from aluminium, phthalates, and other compounds we consider unnecessary. What you put on your skin should be something you could trace back to the earth.

Every Cinnabar Green formulation is built from botanical ingredients (frankincense, chamomile, vetiver, shea, and more) chosen for their efficacy and their gentleness. All of our products are free from synthetic fragrances, artificial colourants and parabens.

Made by hand intentionally

We could automate. We choose not to.

Every product is made by hand, in small batches, on the slopes of Mount Kenya. Not only does this ensure our natural products are fresh, it helps us employ the most people we can.

92% of our team is employed on fixed salaries, providing reliable income in a region where opportunities can be limited and seasonal. This matters more than it might sound.

In Kenya's ASAL (Arid and Semi-Arid Land) regions, consistent employment is not a given. Our workforce is predominantly drawn from Laikipia, where we are based, and 8% of our employees come from historically underemployed communities, including Samburu.

Our packaging ethos

A large proportion of our products are sold in refillable aluminium or glass jars, helping customers reduce packaging waste through repeated reuse.

Aluminium can be recycled indefinitely without loss of quality, making it one of the most circular packaging materials available. For our 1L and 5L refill use recycled HDPE containers, helping to reduce demand for virgin plastic, while our soap collections are packaged in recyclable card, avoiding unnecessary plastic wherever possible.

Invested in our community

We have always believed that a business should leave its community better than it found it. Over more than 20 years in Laikipia, that has meant solar lighting for over 70 households, fuel-efficient stoves for over 120 families, tree-planting with local schools, and a long-standing commitment to Malek Girls Secondary School, where farm tour proceeds still go today.
